Garden Cap Roig

Jardi bot nic de Cap Roig, Carrer dels Forcats, 1-11, Palafrugell, Spain

Description:

The picturesque garden of Cap Roig, whose area is 40 hectares, was once the property of Russian Colonel Nikolai Voedovsky and his wife Dorothy. For 50 years, they carefully and lovingly created gardens on the terraces, devoting each of them to a specific theme: a garden of lilies and jasmine, an olive grove and a water garden with a swimming pool, a garden of primrose and a garden of cacti.

The very history of the appearance of the garden is very romantic - it is the story of the trembling relationship of the Russian colonel and his wife, an Englishwoman. They met in England at the beginning of the XX century, and after the wedding were looking for a suitable place on the Costa Brava to build a family nest. And here on the beloved cape, which turned out to be Cap Roig (translated as "red cape", Voevodsky built a castle for her beloved in the medieval style). He used the ruins of old buildings that he found in the vicinity. Dorothy built a beautiful garden around the castle. Throughout their lives, they collected plants, bringing them from all over the world and as a result formed a unique collection of 1000 species. In 1969, the Vojvodskys decided to transfer their property to Spain in exchange for the fact that their garden and house would not be abandoned. By the way, the couple did not part with their offspring - they rest in one of the corners of the garden, only no one knows now where this place is.

Every year, the Botanical Garden hosts a music festival "Gardens of Cap Roig", whose participants were famous artists: Sting, Lisa Minelli, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Charles Aznavour and many others.
