Gala Dali Castle in Pubol
Plaza de Gala i Dal, 17120 La Pera, Spain
Description:
The medieval castle in Pubol, dating from the XI century, is a building with an adjacent church, with an inner courtyard and a beautiful garden in the French style. Over the centuries, the castle was rebuilt several times, presumably during the heyday of the baronate. This is approximately the end of the XIV century – the beginning of the XV century. Gala Dali, Elena Ivanovna Dyakonova formalized the acquisition of the castle by official means on June 1, 1970. Just two years before that, Salvador Dali decided to finally fulfill the promise he made to his beloved woman back in the 30s. Namely, give her a castle.
In 1968, construction work was carried out on the construction of a theater-museum, and, despite the high pace of construction, Dali ordered to find a castle, preferably near Port Lligat. There was no hesitation about the proposed castle in Pubol from Salvador Dali. Over time, this castle became a kind of refuge for Gal.
The construction of the castle was by no means traditional. Abundant vegetation, painting and even a somewhat excessive fascination with sculpture, baroque elements. There is a lot of symbolism that only the initiated can understand. All the same busts of Wagner, animals in the form of stone or plaster figures. Stuffed animals were also installed. The goal was to create a place of mystery, full of mysteries and secrets, and the interior space was necessarily beautiful. The Dali couple quite succeeded in achieving this goal - a vivid example can be considered the kitchen room, where the hall for music was equipped.
It should be noted that Salvador Dali personally took part in the decoration work, in the design of the garden and several rooms, as well as individual elements.
