San Bartolomeo Cathedral in Benicarlo

Benicarlo, Spain

Description:

San Bartolomeo Cathedral in Benicarlo is the pearl of the city. It was built in the seventeenth century on the site of a destroyed Arab mosque. The interior of the cathedral is an exquisite ensemble of baroque balconies, a beautiful altar and an elegant dome of blue tiles. The fact that the cathedral was built after the invasion of the Spaniards in the XI century, left its imprint in the architectural style.

The cathedral reflects the primacy and religiosity of the Middle Ages. Both the interior and exterior decoration of the building is very modest and restrained. Its highlight can be called an unusual fountain, which is located in the courtyard of the cathedral. The cathedral is the most visited in the city and for many centuries is very popular among visitors and locals.
