Papa Luna Castle

Papa Luna Castle is one of the most beautiful and ancient castles in Peniscola. It has been preserved since the time of the real Templars and is imbued with the spirit of the Middle Ages. Initially, the castle was built by the Phoenicians. It was they who picked up such a successful location on the elevation, which is connected to the mainland part of the land in the form of a small isthmus. In the XII century, this land was captured by the Templars. They built a large castle, which is perfectly preserved to this day.

In this castle from 1417 to 1423 lived quite famous antipope Benedict XIII. Also, the ancient castle, shrouded in numerous legends, always attracts a large number of tourists. According to one of the most common versions, occultists, alchemists and monks lived here. In addition, the castle of Pope Luna is one of the most important documents of the Pope of the Imperial, which to this day has not been found.
