Sightseeing tour to Ronda
Description:
The tour is held for 2-4 hours, during which time the sights of Ronda will be at our disposal.
Inspection of Ronda usually begins with the Plaza de España. From here you can go to Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), the most famous building of the city, in La Ciudad - the oldest quarter. Its construction was prompted by the need to establish a link between the oldest quarter and what, even in the 18th century, had already become the New Ronda. The bridge was opened in 1735, but 6 years later a flood on the Guadalevín River brought it down, taking 50 lives. The surface of the bridge is supported by three semicircular arches, and the enclosed space above the central arch served as the city prison, which today is a kind of museum of the great master Aldehuela.
Crossing the bridge, to its left is the San Francisco Monastery, founded in the era of Catholic monarchs, and for years was the seat of the Holy Inquisition. On the right is Calle Tenorio, the modernist home of San Juan Bosco, whose quaint gardens have a very lush view.
Next to Calle Beato Fray Diego José de Cádiz is the 16th-century Virgen de la Paz (the patron saint of Ronda).
In the era of Islam, the main square of Ronda was located at the highest point of the city, a place that today is known as the Plaza de la Duquesa de Parcent. All the most important buildings in the city at that time were located here: Alcázar (fortress), mosque, market, prison, etc. But today’s appearance of the square was the result of a project carried out in the 19th century with subsequent improvements and decorations of the Marquis de Parcent.
On Calle Armiñán you can visit three museums:
1. The Bandit Museum, No. 65, visually represents this phenomenon of the 19th century.
2. Hunting Museum, No. 59, tells about the centuries-old traditions of this pastime in the mountains of Ronda
3.Lara Museum, No. 29 in the Condes de la Conquista Palace with an extensive collection of antiques and art exhibits.
After the tour, if you want to try the local cuisine, lunch in the best restaurants of Ronda overlooking the New Bridge, the mountain valley and the Tahoe Gorge, a visit to souvenir shops.
