Let’s start with Malaga, because this is the central city on the Costa del Sol.
The picturesque, cosmopolitan city of Malaga lies in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia. Malaga is a famous holiday destination with a variety of attractions such as beautiful beaches, architectural sites, and art museums. The city is also known as the birthplace of the artist Picasso.
The border between the provinces of Málaga and Granada runs through the minicipal formation of Nerja, which is not only the most important tourist center of the east of the Costa del Sol, but also has the most interesting and attractive coastline landscape in the whole province; here the slopes of the Sierra de Almijara mountains descend directly into the sea, which is very unusual in this part of the Mediterranean, and form a very uneven and steep coast. It was named the Paraje Natural de los Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo.
Cueva de Nerja Cave was discovered in 1959 at the foot of Sierra de Almijar. This is the most famous cave in the region not only for its size, but also for the exceptional beauty of its stalactites and stalagmites and for the richness of archaeological finds. It was even given the status of an object of historical and artistic heritage. There are four galleries open to the public: Belén (Bethlehem), with a museum of pottery and Cro-Magnons; Fantasmas (ghosts), so named for its structures of stalactites of very bizarre shapes; Ballet, where music and dance festivals are held, and Cataclismo (cataclysm), named in memory of the earthquake, during which one of the columns whose fragments can still be seen on the ground collapsed.
