Description:

In the history of ancient Malaga quite dramatic pages. One of them reminds the church of Iglesia Nuestra Senora de la Victoria. It was built in 1487 after Muslim Malaga fell under the pressure of Catholic troops. The bloody resistance and siege of the city lasted three months. Then the city surrendered to the Christians. By order of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, a Christian church was built on the site of the field camp where Their Majesties watched the siege of Malaga.

In the 17th century, the church was rebuilt in the traditional style of Catholic churches. The interior is a fine example of Andalusian Baroque, in addition, there is a rich collection of art. Of the internal attractions of the church can be called a magnificent altar with the figure of the Virgin Mary, a gilded dome and a very interestingly decorated crypt of the Counts of Buenavista with skulls and bones.

The church is dedicated to the patroness of Malaga, Virgen de la Victoria.
