Garganta del Chorro Gorge
ardales natural park, near Alora, Costa del Sol, Spain
Description:
Silent and mesmerizing gorge of Garganta del Chorro is one of the incredibly picturesque places of mountainous Spain. The limestone mountains have been sharpened by the Guadalores River for centuries. The result is a narrow canyon 180 meters deep.
Proud rocks seem impregnable. However, over the abyss laid a kind of wooden path. It's called the King's Road. In history, a reliable fact is recorded: in 1921, the Spanish king Alfonso XIII followed it, heading to the opening dam. It is not recommended to repeat the King’s experience these days. The trail is closed to passage. But this does not prevent you from seeing incredible landscapes without risking life.
In addition to the impressive rocks, there are several lakes formed as a result of the structure of the same dam. The water in them is so deep turquoise color that they seem bottomless.
