Almadraba. Tuna fishing in the Strait of Gibraltar
Description:
Almadraba is a traditional type of tuna fishing that is more than two thousand years old. Each year, tuna migrates from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar, where fishermen block the way of fish with nets, and a flotilla of small boats takes the tuna caught in the net in a circle.
The spectacle of course is very unusual, huge fish, whose weight can reach 200-300 and up to 600 kg, are pulled out of the nets on ships before our eyes.
The Almadraba lasts less than two months, from May to June, and since this year we have been able to see it directly from a fishing boat.
Exit to sea occurs early in the morning, from the town of Barbate, province of Cadiz, the total time is about 4 hours.
It is necessary to reserve participation in the excursion in advance. In addition, during the year there is an opportunity to participate in tuna fishing in real tuna.
