Humilla Castle

Jumilla, Murcia, Spain

Description:

Humilla Castle is a symbol of the eponymous city in which it was built.

The first fortifications of the castle occur during the Bronze Age, and over the centuries the fortress continued to expand. In 1241, the castle was won by San Fernando, and a year after its conquest, Alfonso X the Wise ordered that a chapel be built within the walls of the fortress.

In 1294, the castle passed into the hands of the Crown of Aragon, and the townspeople were forced to ask the new king for access to the shrine. Currently, the castle is in good condition, and on its territory it is possible to organize excursions and events.
