Nerja, Frigiliana and Prehistoric Caves
Description:
Just 50 km from Malaga, in the mountains, is a small town awarded the national award as one of the most beautiful white villages in Spain. The city of Frigiliana is a crossroads of the Paleolithic, Muslim heritage and the European Mediterranean. A trip here is a journey in time, in the Middle Ages, in the era of prosperity of Muslims in these lands; a journey where a person can realize the unhistorical nature of his being. It admires its whiteness, narrow winding streets and colorful details. It seems that time did not affect her and left everything in its place, preserving the traces of previous rulers.
After a walk through the Islamic Frigilian, we are transported back in time to the Paleolithic era. We are waiting for prehistoric caves, which reflect a turning point in human evolution, inhabited by people 25,000 years ago. Without impressions will not leave the bizarre forms created by nature itself, with giant halls, stalactites, stalagmites and stalagnates; one of which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for its impressive size.
And, at the end of the day, we will witness the winding spurs descending to the sea by the coastal ridges of Almihara, on which the more modern settlement, the city of Nerja, is located. Famous for its so-called “Balcony of Europe” built on the ruins of an old military fortress. You will not find a more harmonious city in Spain than Nerja: eras, styles, races have coexisted peacefully for centuries.
The remains of the old fortress walls and the observation deck, girdled with a kilometer ribbon of magnificent beaches, as if propping up the whole city - a pleasant end to the day!
