Ronda

Rhonda: A city over a chasm where history is felt by the skin

Description:

Ronda is one of the most emotional cities in Andalusia. Here it is impossible to remain neutral: the sheer cliffs, the wind over the El Tajo gorge, the ancient stones and the sense of dramatic depth that is felt at every step. Ronda is not just a beautiful city, but a place of strong character where history, nature and human passions converge.

Our walk will begin in the old part of the city - the former Moorish medina. We will walk through narrow streets, look into aristocratic mansions, behind the modest facades of which inner courtyards, halls and stories of several eras are hidden. Rhonda lived by her own rules for a long time, and it still reads in her architecture, layout and atmosphere.

The heart of the city is Puente Nuevo, one of the most impressive bridges in Europe. It connects not just two parts of the city, but two worlds - the old Moorish Ronda and the new Spanish. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the El Tajo Gorge, and it is here that the scale of this place and its dramatic history are particularly keenly felt.

Rhonda is the cradle of bullfighting, and we’ll definitely talk about her passion. We will see the oldest arena in Spain and discuss how the rules of bullfighting were formed here, why Ronda played a key role in the history of bullfighting and what legends still live in the walls of the arena.

During the tour we will also see the Arab baths, old bridges, the famous Balcony del Conyo, and then move to the more modern part of the city - where today the locals gather and feel a live, non-site Ronda.

The city inspired writers and travelers - Ernest Hemingway, Rilke, Merime visited here. We will talk about what attracted them to Ronda and why this city still makes such a strong impression.

The end of the walk will be the sunset over Rhonda – the moment when a soft light paints houses and cliffs, and it becomes clear: Rhonda is not just a point on the map, but a state that stays with you for a long time.
