Ronda

New bridge

29400 Ronda, Má laga, Spain

Description:

The new bridge in Ronda is a three-span arched bridge that connects the new and old city. Like the Bullfighting Arena, this bridge is a symbol of the city, as it offers the best panorama of Ronda.

The new bridge was built between 1759 and 1793. Prior to this, the project of a single-arch bridge with a length of only 35 meters was made, but the project was unsuccessful and the bridge collapsed in 1740, 6 years later, killing fifty people. Then it was decided to build a new bridge. José Martin de Aldenela took an active part in the construction.

The bridge passes over a deep (up to 100 meters) ravine, along the bottom of which flows the river Guadalev n (Guadalevin). The height of the bridge at its highest point is 98 meters, but if you take into account the depth of the gorge, then more than 120 meters.
