Palace of Congresses
Avenida de Zurriola, 1, 20002 Donostia-San Sebastian, Guipuzcoa, Spain
Description:
The architectural ensemble of San Sebastian has long been distinguished by a restrained taste and harmony of designs. Everything changed after the completion of the project of Rafael Moneo – the Palace of Congresses appeared in front of the city. The construction of the complex took ten years, which was designed to become at the same time the hallmark of the city, its cultural center and cause a considerable number of disputes. Avant-garde, which so clearly contrasted with the traditional classical look of San Sebastian, fell to the liking of not everyone. However, the novelty of the functional solutions of the complex and the possibility of involving the city in the world cultural life took over.
The Palace of Congresses became the main venue for the film festival, and San Sebastian recently received the title of center of the World Film Festival. It was here that such masters of film art as Francis Ford Coppola and Terrence Malik received well-deserved awards. Today, the Palace of Congresses has numerous halls for various events and concerts.
