Description:

Attempts to build a bridge over the Ebro River were made in the XII century. But the stone bridge was built only in the XV century. This long process was led by Gil de Menestral. Unfortunately, to create an idea of what the bridge looked like initially, you can only from the painting “View of Zaragoza” by Martinez del Maso, the fact that the flood of 1643 destroyed two central spans of the bridge.

The bridge was restored, and even managed to restore and expand the water cutters. Four remarkable lions, mounted on columns on both sides at the entrance to the bridge, were cast in bronze by sculptor Francisco Rayo Lajos in the late twentieth century. This bridge overlooks the Basilica of Bogomatiri Pilar, the business card of Zaragoza.
