Segovia

From Madrid to Segovia

Description:

We invite you to plunge into history when the Iberian Peninsula was a Roman province. Segovia is the place where you can see one of the greatest legacies of the Roman period - the Segovia water pipe, which dates back more than two thousand years of its history. We are proud to say that this is the only aqueduct in the world that has preserved its original appearance from those ancient times. A grandiose structure that survived the era of the Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, rulers of the Kingdom of Castile. Recently, not far from the aqueduct, a figure of a wonderful naked devil making a selfie was installed, past which it is impossible to pass and not make your photo in an embrace with a devil. Segovia is famous for its Romanesque churches of the XII-XIII centuries. It is here that the last active monastery of the Order of St. Jerome is located - "El Parral". Segovia is the capital of Castile during the reign of the Trastamar dynasty and their bright representative - Isabella Catholic. One of the architectural gems of the city is the Royal Alcazar Palace, reminiscent of the fabulous palaces of Walt Disney. The cathedral is an example of the architectural style of flaming Gothic. Segovians are proud of the unique decoration of the facades of their houses - esgravito, shops and taverns offering local delicacies - cheeses, jamons, dried sausages, olive oil and of course wine - white, red, pink and even blue. In Segovia, you can try a local delicacy - a milk pig or a milk lamb baked in a "live" oven, according to the recipe of the first owner and chef of the restaurant "Don Candido". In the restaurant now run by his grandson, you can witness the tradition of "breaking the plate." The owner of the restaurant, a man of quite venerable age, personally butchers the piglet "extended" on a clay dish, after which the plate flies violently to the floor, and beats in front of the guests showing that the piglet is baked so well that even an ordinary plate can replace a sharp knife. How many plates have been broken all this time! Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir piece with the owner’s autograph. Come to Segovia and you will not regret it! We will reveal the beauty of old Castile and tell you about the small and big secrets of the medieval royal court.
