The Templar Church of La Vera Cruz

Show me on the map

Description:

The church was built by the Knights of the Order of the Templars and consecrated at the beginning of the XII century. After the defeat of the Templars, the Maltese Order took possession of the temple. Church festivals are still held here, and members of the order march here from the city with songs, dressed in medieval clothes. In 1919, the church was transferred under the protection of the state, after which restoration work began, during which frescoes of the XV century were found in the chapel.

At the heart of this two-storey architectural monument is the construction, which is a polygon. On the second floor you can see a luxurious altar in the oriental style, before which the knights of the order once held services.

But this is not the only Eastern element of the church. We can say that all its exterior and architectural style has oriental pronounced notes.

For lovers of the history of the Order of the Templars, this church is definitely worth a visit. Entrance ticket costs 1.50 euros.
