Fountain of Turia

Valencia, Spain

Description:

The Fountain of Turia is one of the most beautiful fountains of the city, which is located on the St. Virgin Square. The fountain was built in 1976. It was designed by the famous sculptor Manuel Silvester Montesinos. In ancient times, Turia was the central river of Valencia. But over the years, the climate changed, and the city became upset and the river gradually dried up. In memory of the famous river, a fountain was built, which was named after this river.

The composition of the fountain is represented by the figure of Poseidon surrounded by seven virgins, which symbolize the irrigation canals of the river. The sculptures are made of bronze, and the fountain itself is made of beautiful expensive marble. The fountain is in the very center of the square. It is constantly surrounded by people who just relax or want to feed pigeons.
