Oh. Vic

The city of Vic is located one and a half hours by train from Barcelona, it is part of the province of the same name in the community of Catalonia. Vic is the oldest Spanish city with a rich and complex history. The city has its own coat of arms and flag, with a population of about 40,000 inhabitants (2018).

Vic is located about a hundred kilometers from the border with France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

The climate in the city belongs to the Mediterranean type, which is characterized by hot and dry summer and mild winter.

The atmospheric historical center of Vica is deservedly included in the special rating of the Seven Catalan Wonders.

The city managed to visit one of the main Iberian cities, a Roman colony and the capital of one of the Catalan counties. From the Roman period, a unique temple of the II century has been preserved in Vique, it is located on the banks of the Meder River. The temple survived several centuries and restoration work in the twentieth century, and now it is considered one of the best preserved in the Spanish kingdom. To this day, fragments of columns with capitals have survived.

Interesting story of the opening of the temple. The fact that until 1882, no one knew about it, because in its place was the castle de los Monsada, he in turn was built in the XII century directly on top of the temple.

Vic is also famous for an amazing square in the center of the old city - Placa Major (Plaza Mayor) amazes with amazing eclecticism: there are buildings of different architecture: Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic, Art Nouveau. Interestingly, the square is still not paved, and it retains the spirit of past centuries.

Twice a week the market comes to the square, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a brisk trade. Christmas markets are especially colorful, which open in December each year. Vic is famous throughout Catalonia and even Spain for the production of various sausages and smoked products, and at Christmas and New Year in the city reigns mind-blowing aroma. Also on Placa Major are all urban folk festivals: carnivals, holidays, concerts, theater performances, puppet shows, dancing, brisk trade and much, much more.

Also in the historical center is the Cathedral of the Apostle Peter and the square of the same name. Interestingly, the cathedral was attached to the Romanesque tower, its purpose is now a bell tower.

Closer to the outskirts of Vic flows a small river Meder, over it thrown a stone bridge - another attraction. Romanesque bridge was built in the XII century, now it is very picturesque, and continues to be used for its intended purpose.

Travelers in Vic can go on different lengths of walking in the picturesque surroundings or go to the horse farm to communicate with noble and beautiful animals.

Many surprises are prepared for tourists in the city of Vic, but one of the most interesting surprises can be a balloon flight over the city. From a bird’s eye view, an unforgettable view of the surroundings opens, and the memories of this flight will remain with you for a lifetime!
