Girona

The Three Treasures of Girona

Description:

Welcome to Girona – a city where centuries-old history is felt in every stone, no wonder the stonemason is one of the typical local professions.
This walking tour will reveal secrets hidden from ordinary view.

With you is a local licensed guide who has lived in Girona for over 30 years. Only with an official guide you will get to the unique corners, closed to most tourists - and learn why Girona is considered the heart of the spiritual history of Catalonia.

We will walk through the romantic streets of the old city, where once passed the ancient Roman legionaries, mystical Sephardim and Naopoleon soldiers. You will learn the legends and traditions of old Girona, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic.

Together we will visit unique buildings where only licensed guides can guide tours.

In the ancient monastery of St. Peter you will see the famous two-tailed mermaid, in Arab baths you will learn how the medieval spa was arranged.
We will also go to an ominous place - a unique sedentary cemetery.
Then we will visit the most beloved church of the city, the same one where magic flies once appeared, and now ancient sarcophagi are exhibited - witnesses to the martyrdom of the first Christian Girona.

And finally we are waiting for the majestic Cathedral, entered in the Guinness book.
Here we'll see:
1. The oldest stained glass window in Catalonia, which has been walled in the walls of the Cathedral for centuries. Found him accidentally during the restoration of the chapel and now he is waiting for rare guests in one of the secluded corners of the cloister.
2. Unique in the world tapestry "Creation of the world"
Stored in the Museum of the Cathedral is a real textile masterpiece of the XI century. No museum in the world can boast of this! I will talk about its symbolism and its secret meaning. It turns out that a thousand years ago, people perceived God as an all-powerful superman, and the figure of Christ has much in common with Hercules.
3. The Bible in Stone is the cloister of the Cathedral, where capitals depict biblical scenes.
Local masons (remember that this is the main Giron profession?) carved them back in the 12th century. In Girona, stones can be told, so the cloister courtyard is a real stone book.

If you are attracted to mysticism, we will plunge into the secrets of the Jewish quarter.
Narrow cobbled streets, tiny courtyards, traces of mezzas on the doors ... You will learn why the Jews were persecuted, where and by whom the first school of Kabbalah was founded on the Iberian Peninsula, and what happened to the baptized Jews. You can also visit the Museum of Jewish History.

Did you know that the statute of the Inquisition was written in Girona? Moreover, the author was from a family of baptized Jews, now in the monastery building, where the cruel writer lived, one of the faculties of the local university is located.

Why would you want to see Girona with me? Because I studied as a guide at a local university, because I've been studying my favorite city for 30 years, because I'm a tour guide with an official license. With me you will see the treasures that even the most experienced travelers miss.
I conduct excursions in Russian, English and Spanish.
