Besalu Defence Bridge

Besalu, Girona, Spain

Description:

The defensive bridge of Besalu is a majestic bridge with seven spans, built in the XI-XII century.

This stone bridge over the Fluvia River was built on the already existing natural rocks, for this reason the structure has an unusual angular shape.

The width of the bridge is sufficient for two horse carts.

At the entrance gate of the bridge, a massive descending metal grille has been preserved. Also well preserved and stone watch towers with teeth on the roofs, located on both sides of the bridge. These towers are depicted on the emblem of the city of Besala.
