Sorrento
Description:
How beautiful the sea is,
as she draws, sparkling,
heart and tenderness,
It is as if your eyes were blue.”
Go back to Sorrento. J. Curtis
Beautiful Sorrento rises above the sea on a 30 meter terrace. Dimensional and sedate, it differs from many resort towns with their bustling rhythm. Here there is an atmosphere of luxury, aristocracy and dolce vita.
Of course, nature is the main advantage of this Italian town. Here you will find beautiful landscapes, amazing sea, lush vegetation and clean air and a lot of opportunities for a variety of holidays. and
No wonder, at different times, famous artists and celebrities sought here. A special love for this city was fed by Goethe and Stendhal, Rossini and Mendelssohn. Sorrento remembers Dickens and Nietzsche, Casanova and Carruzo. And the painter Sylvester Shchedrin, having visited once, stayed here forever and reflected in the paintings his love for this city.
The main symbol of Sorrento is the lemon. Once in Sorrento, you can see that in this city citrus fruits grow everywhere. The city is buried in yellow-green groves and gardens. Lemons in the windows of boutiques and small benches, on wooden utensils and exquisite ceramics, and of course, in the refreshing liqueur "Limoncello" of different varieties and fortresses. It has been cooked in small family factories for centuries.
Here is a statue of the holy martyr Antoninus, a Benedictine monk patron of the city and a monument to Torquato Tasso famous native of Sorrento. The historic center of the city, it has preserved the layout of Roman times. We will proceed through St. Antoninus Square to the basilica of the same name. The entrance to it is decorated with a part of the whale skeleton, and in the crypt there are numerous epitaphs on the dead or missing ships.
We will also visit the observation deck, from where you will see incredible views of the Bay of Naples. Next, pay attention to the monastery courtyard of the 13th century Church of St. Francis. And of course, we will pass through the narrow streets of Sorrento, where we will admire the products of skillful Sorrentine artisans - leather tanners, masters of footwear and wood inlay masters. And of course, we will taste the delicious "Limoncello" - the pride of the Sorrentians. Sit down at a table in a cozy cafe to slowly enjoy the unique atmosphere of the city where the air is permeated with the aroma of lemons and the fragrance of flowers.
Once in this romantic place, I want to come back again and again.
