Acre

The Acre Link of the Lost Chain of Time

Description:

Akko is an ancient city by the sea where the crusaders, Ottomans and Arabs left their footprints. Walk through the underground passages, fortress walls and eastern bazaars. Hear the whispers of centuries in knightly halls and caravanserais. It is a journey deep into history where the stones remember everything.

We will walk along the walls and bastions of an ancient fortress that Napoleon could not take. Then we descend into a maze of narrow streets, which are narrower than in old Tallinn. On our way will be the historical quarters of the city: Venetian, Genoese, Pisa, in which lived natives of these republics, as we bypass the "khans" - Turkish caravanserai, built for merchants and storage of goods. We enter the port, thanks to which Acre became the center of world trade during the Crusader era. Dive into the Templar Tunnel, which allowed the knights to move in secret. We will see places associated with the Baha'i religion. We reach the palace of the Turkish pasha Al Jazzar, which was turned into a prison during the British Mandate. Take a look at the famous Al Jazzar Mosque, one of the most important in the Islamic world. Despite its vast historical past, Acre remains a vibrant city. On the shopping street you can buy anything from clothes and souvenirs to fruits and fresh fish. The ticket to the Knights Halls is comprehensive, it includes a visit to the Templar Tunnel, the Turkish Bath Museum and a small ethnographic museum. Knight's Halls - a real medieval world underground, preserved through the centuries, a UNESCO object. This complex is connected by a network of passages through which it was possible to secretly move around the besieged city. We will see ancient walls and arches as people saw them almost 800 years ago. On the streets and on the promenade of old Acre you will find many cozy cafes and restaurants with an oriental atmosphere and spice aromas. The history of Acre is so bright and rich that there is no need to decorate it with fictional fables and legends, the real historical facts are much more striking.
