Jaffa is one of the main ports of ancient Israel and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It was in Jaffa that ships with pilgrims came to Jerusalem.

Jaffa is mentioned four times in the Old Testament - for example, Lebanese cedars were brought to this port in rafts for the construction of the temple of Solomon. This is where the prophet Jonah began his journey. Jaffa also appears in the New Testament: here the Apostle Peter resurrected his disciple Tabitha. In the Hellenistic era, the troops of Alexander the Great stood in the city, in the Jewish War the Romans burned Jaffa to the ground.

Settlement on the territory of modern Jaffa appeared before the eighteenth century BC. Archaeological excavations indicate that during the Pixos invasion of Egypt, defensive fortifications were built in this place. In historical chronicles, Jaffa is mentioned in the fifteenth century BC. During the reign of the Roman rulers, the city experienced a period of prosperity. However, during the Jewish War, the settlement was completely destroyed. However, after a short time, when Veslasian came to power, the city was revived and received the name Flavia Ioppa. In the middle of the seventh century AD, when the Arabs attacked Jaffa, it lost its importance.

At the beginning of the twelfth century, the Crusaders came to Israel, expelling Muslims and Jews from the city, and the settlement itself is made the capital center of Jaffa County. Since then, large-scale reconstruction of the area began. The difficult fate of the city does not stop, it was repeatedly conquered, destroyed, restored again, but in the thirteenth century the city was thoroughly destroyed. As a result, its importance as a port was lost. He could not survive the invasion of Napoleon I in the late eighteenth century. In 1950, Jaffa joined Tel Aviv, but managed to preserve its unique identity.
