Museum "Underground Knights Halls"

Akko, Israel

About the company:

Museum "Underground knightly halls" is located in the ancient city of Acre, Israel. During the restoration work, halls were opened, demonstrating an example of the early Gothic style. 11 halls are open to the public, representing only a small part of the Crusader city, which has been underground for centuries.

During the time of the Crusaders, these halls with high vaults housed the headquarters of the Order of Hospitallers, founded in the XI century and the Order of the Templars. Among these subterranean rooms, the Knights Hall, created over seven centuries ago and retaining its original appearance, is a large hall located below, which may have hosted crusader receptions and ceremonies. You can also see a hospital, stables, underground labyrinths, prison death rows with preserved instruments of torture and a gallows, the loop of which is located above the trap door.

You can also walk through the Templar Tunnel, which was discovered in 1994. Its total length is about 350 meters, previously it connected the Templar fortress with the city port. Only part of the tunnel, cleared and lined with wooden bridges, is open for visiting.
