Sorek Stalactite Caves
Description:
Sorek Stalactite Cave is one of the most visited tourist places in Israel. It is also called the Avshalom Cave, as it is located on the territory of the eponymous nature reserve.
The best time to explore the caves is between November and May, during the active flowering of shrubs. Then you can not only plunge into the atmosphere of the mysterious world, but also walk around the neighborhood, admiring nature and imbuing yourself with the contrast of the two elements. In winter there is a beautiful view of the mountains.
The special sensations of exploring the Stalactite cave are emphasized by specially tuned lighting. In the light of which you will see the bizarre forms of stalactites and stalagmites growing towards each other, as if they want to connect. Water in this natural grotto continues to flow, so drop by drop, slowly but persistently - the outlines of the figures continue to change.
In the Sorek cave, a special microclimate, humidity and temperature are maintained. Some stalactites and stalagmites are more than 300,000 years old. To the entrance leads a trail of 150 steps, equipped with handrails and benches. Slow climb will take no more than 10 minutes.
Sorek Cave is located in the Beit Shemesh area on the western slope of the Judean Mountains. You can get there in 10-15 minutes from Jerusalem.
