Coral Coast Reserve
Coral Beach, Eilat, Israel 07/637-6829
Description:
The Coral Coast National Reserve is the only coral reef in Israel. It stretches for 1,200 meters along the Red Sea coast just twenty meters from the shore, a 5-minute drive from the center of Eilat on the Eilat Taba highway.
It consists of two coral walls separated by a sand strip. One of the walls goes to a depth of 3-4 meters, the second - 35 meters. In the waters of the reef, there are about 270 species of coral, which serve as a refuge for at least 2,500 species of marine fauna, some of which are found nowhere else.
The reserve is a delightful underwater garden, where hundreds of various brightly colored tropical fish slide between coral bushes: fish - butterfly, fish - parrot, moon - fish, and many other species. If you are lucky, you can even find sea turtles here. Sea lilies and anemones grow on the surface of corals, like flowers in a garden, giant mollusks carefully open the shells to close them instantly at the slightest danger.
Entry into the water on the territory of the reserve from the shore is prohibited, so as not to expose the reef to destruction. You can dive immediately to a depth of about 8 meters from two piers, opposite which are the amazing beauty of the rocks of Jesus and Moses. On the territory of the reserve there is an underwater observatory and a dolphin reef, where you can swim with these wonderful creatures.
Coral reef is a very complex, finely tuned and sensitive ecosystem, so there are very strict conservation measures. The number of divers is strictly limited, they are forbidden to use gloves and knives. What you need to have with you when diving is a camera to take home fantastic pictures of underwater life.
