Uvda International Airport

Description:

Uvda International Airport is sometimes called “Ovda”. It is located 60 kilometers from the city of Eilat. It is the second most important airport after Ben Gurion International Airport.

When it was built in 1980, the airport was conceived as a military airport. Israel, according to the Camp David Accords, returned to Egypt the Sinai Peninsula, which was captured by them in the events of the Six-Day War. After that, the remaining military airfields were critically insufficient for the IDF Air Force.

Today, the airport is called "Uvda" - the most recent Israeli military operation in the war for Israeli independence.
