Galilee

Ancient city of Hippos

Kfar Haruv, Israel

Description:

The Greek polis Hippos is located on a high hill near the Sea of Galilee. The white stone town was built in the Roman style: 2 main streets of Cardo Maximus and Decumanus passed through it.

Hippos was a beautiful city before the earthquake: hundreds of snow-white columns, majestic odeons, palaces and temples decorated with elegant architectural elements. Today we are reminded that here was only ruins and excavations, which are carried out by archaeologists.

You can get to the city by 92 highways to Kibbutz Ein Gev, but you will have to climb the hill yourself. On the opposite side of the entrance to Ein Gev there is a narrow highway where you can climb to the dead city.
