Jerusalem. The most interesting thing in a day
Description:
The excursion program is built individually, taking into account your interests.
One day tour of Jerusalem.
I almost always start the tour by showing the old town from Mount Scopus. We looked at the city, drove two hundred meters - and under us the eastern slope of the Jerusalem mountain range - the Judean desert. If you are lucky, and there is no ordinary haze, you can see the northern part of the Dead Sea and the mountains of Jordan.
Then there is the mountain of Olives, or Olives. Place of Ascension, view of the eastern wall of the Temple Mount and the mosque on it. A view of the golden dome above the Rock. Mercy Gate. The oldest Jewish cemetery on a mountainside. The Garden of Gethsemane is the place where Jesus of Nazareth was arrested. (If the program includes a visit to all Christian shrines of the old city, we visit the tomb of the Virgin and Russian Orthodox monasteries on the Mount of Olives – Spaso-Voznesensky and Mary Magdalene.)
We looked at the city from all sides. We got a general idea. Now you can go deep into the old city. We descend from the Mount of Olives to the Kedron Valley, cross it, and climb Mount Zion. Visit the prison of Jesus in Gallicanto Church. We enter the old city through the Zion Gate. We walk along the wall of the Armenian quarter. In the Jewish quarter we see archaeological excavations, layers of different eras. A wide wall built by King Hezekiah of Judah. Roman period. Byzantine street Cardo.
Through the central shopping street we go to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Alexander's compound. Doomsday Gate threshold. Muristan Market Square. Temple shrines. Calvary. The Anointing Stone. Supper. The crypt of the temple is an underground room, the place of finding the Cross. We go up to the roof of the temple. There is an Ethiopian monastery and the remains of a crusader monastery.
From the roof of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre we descend to the Muslim quarter. The Way of the Cross. Via Dolorosa. Along the western wall of the Temple Mount, we reach the square in front of the Wailing Wall.
Through the Jewish Quarter we return to Mount Zion.
If you have the strength, desire, and ability to perceive, visit the complex Hagia Zion. Dormition is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin. Last Supper maid. King David's tomb.
In conclusion – a sightseeing tour by car in the new areas of Jerusalem. Government quarter. Knesset, Israel Museum, State Bank, Supreme Court.
It's a busy program for the whole day. The tour can last 6 to 9 hours. I didn’t mention the technical details here – the time spent on lunch, shopping, the length of the queues at the Holy Sepulchre. Such a wide range of time - because the tour is individual. Everyone has their own pace, their own way of perception. Someone wants to see and go faster, more time. The other slowly absorbs the impressions. Someone needs to pray. Someone to buy gifts and souvenirs. A tour of the old city of Jerusalem is a considerable physical activity. I have to walk for a few hours. Distances are small, but a lot of ups and downs. It gets hot in Jerusalem in the summer.
Visiting Jerusalem for the first time for one day. I advise you to dedicate a tour of Jerusalem for two days or more. If you can't, come back.
