Monasteries of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea

Description:

The Desert of the Holy City is a desert in the shadow of rain. A place associated with biblical events and the Old and New Testaments. The prophet Elijah lived in this desert, hiding from the wrath of King Ahab. Here, according to legend, the Good News of the birth of a daughter receives St. Joachim, Father of the Most Holy Mother of God. In this wilderness, Christ prayed for 40 days and nights and was tested by Satan. Near the Place of Temptation, John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the waters of the Jordan River. The Jewish desert is the birthplace of the monastic lavra.

You will see the Monastery of St. Josevita, grown from the rock, the monastery of St. Gerasima of Jordan, the true place of Baptism is Kaser el Yahud. We will visit Qumran - an ancient settlement of the Essenes sect, which is considered the prototype of the Christian Lavra. One of the greatest discoveries of our civilization, the Dead Sea Scrolls, was made here.

At the end of the tour – swimming in the Dead Sea.
