Description:
This tour will explain why there are so many golden domes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Holy Land. We will start our journey in a comfortable car from the Olive Mountain.
"Russian candle" spire bell tower in the name of John the Baptist, belonging to the Russian Orthodox Olive convent, which is one of the landmarks, symbols of Jerusalem.
From here we descend to the golden domes of St. Mary Magdalene Church. Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, numbered among the saints as the martyr Elizabeth, who shared the fate of the royal Romanovs, rests here.
In the Church of the Tomb of the Virgin Mary there is an icon of the Jerusalem Mother of God, a Russian letter. Hence the origins of the Russian Orthodox holiday Assumption.
Passing along the Mourning Path, heading to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, we will visit the Alexander Compound, built over the “threshold of the doomsday gates”, through which, according to legend, Christ was led to execution.
After visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, our way lies beyond the walls of the Old City, next to which is the Russian Compound, with its main temple of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem - the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. You will learn about how Russian Orthodox religious figures bought land here for Russia, why it was necessary, what significant historical discoveries fell to their lot.
And we will end our journey in a picturesque valley near Jerusalem in the village of Ein Kerem, a visit to the women’s Russian Gornensky monastery. I will tell you about the difficult fate of this Orthodox monastery.
