Mary Magdalene Temple
Description:
The temple of Mary Magdalene is located at the foot of the Olive Mountain, in Gethsemane, just above the Tomb of the Mother of God. It was erected in memory of Empress Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880), wife of Emperor Alexander II, mother of Emperor Alexander III and Grand Dukes Sergius and Paul.
The laying of the temple took place on January 21, 1885. The author of the project is architect David Ivanovich Grimm. The construction was conducted under the supervision of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin) and lasted three years.
