Church of the Nativity

Church of Nativity, Jerusalem

Description:

The Church of the Nativity of Christ is one of the main and revered Christian shrines.

The church is built on the supposed birthplace of Jesus Christ. The first temple was built by order of Emperor Constantine in the 30s of the IV century AD. In 529 the temple was destroyed after the rebellion of Samaria. When the temple was restored by Emperor Justinian, it was expanded. Under the Crusaders, the temple was especially revered and decorated. Despite numerous invasions of the city, the temple was never completely destroyed.
