Temple of All Nations

Jerusalem, Israel

Description:

The Temple of All Nations (Temple of Agony) is a Greek Catholic temple that was built by Franciscan monks. Funds for the construction of the church were collected by communities from different countries. This explains the name of the temple. The location was also not chosen by chance. In the fourth century there was a church of the Byzantines, in the 12th century – a temple of the Crusaders. A new temple appeared in the 1920s.

The author of the project is Italian Antonio Barluzzi. The main shrine is the stone in front of the altar, on which, according to legend, the Savior prayed before his arrest.

Outside, the temple is decorated with pink stone, and inside purple glass, as a reminder of depression from the agony of Christ. Corinthian columns adorn the facade. Mosaic attracts beauty. There are three galleries inside the temple. The church has a semicircular classical dome. You can get there by bus 1, 2, 38, 99, by taxi, on foot in the Kedrone Valley.
