Archaeological Park "Ophel"
Description:
The park is located near the Western Wall. Here are the remains of ancient buildings that were found thanks to the efforts of archaeologists in many countries.
Large-scale research of this area began only in the XIX century. Science knows two names: American E. Robinson and Swiss T. Tobler. These scientists became the discoverers of many sights of Jerusalem. Robinson discovered the first ancient arch. It was named after the scientist “Robinson’s Arch”. It rises beautifully above the road.
In his opinion, it was from her that the bridge over the Tyropion valley began. His colleague found another arch. Scientists believe that this arch served as the beginning of the bridge leading to the Temple Mount. In addition to the arches, visitors can see other artifacts from the Second Temple era. It is worth paying attention to a large pile of stones, reminiscent of the destruction of the Second Temple.
