Independence Park

Between Aggron, King George and Hillel Streets, Jerusalem, Israel

Description:

Independence Park is a vast green area opposite the U.S. Embassy in downtown Jerusalem. During the British Mandate, the park was an open area between the Jewish city center and the Arab district.

At the end of the War of Independence in 1948, a Jewish park called Independence was built here. The park serves as a resting place for citizens, as well as public purposes.

During the day, families with children walk here, people working in the district dine in the shade in the fresh air, picnics are organized, young people make dates. At night, the park turns into a meeting place for sexual minorities who have chosen Independence Park to host events such as the gay pride parade. In addition, the park hosts a variety of urban cultural and entertainment programs.
