Shearim Street

Me'a She'arim, Jerusalem

Description:

Shearim Street (translated as “hundred gates”) is located in the old district of Jerusalem. It was laid in 1874 by Baharan and Rivlin. The land was bought from the Arabs and 140 houses were built on it. Until now, the European color of that time has been preserved.

Mostly Orthodox Jews live here. They dress very modestly, behave decently, maintain the atmosphere of true life.

Locals refuse the benefits of civilization and often do not allow people with smartphones to enter their home. The quarter has a rectangular shape. You can enter the quarter through one of the six gates. Buildings, shops, people look special. Almost all houses have external spiral staircases, balconies with grilles. The aroma of fresh pastries, fried fish is spread throughout the block. Synagogue and yeshiva buildings are scattered around the block.

You can get there by bus 36, 39, 100, 102.
