Dormition monastery
Description:
The Assumption Monastery in Jerusalem (also called the Abbey of Dormition or the Abbey of Zion of the Holy Virgin Mary) is one of the attractions located on Mount Zion.
The final reconstruction of the monastery was completed in 1910, and in 1926 it received the status of an Abbey. Nowadays, the monastery is one of the favorite places for pilgrimage in Israel.
Inside the monastery there are six chapels in a circle, and in the center there are three rings with the words: "God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit" symbolizing the three shrines of Christianity.
On a stone pedestal in the underground crypt of the temple, in the heart of the monastery, there is a sculpture of the Virgin.
Entrance for tourists is free. There is even a hotel for pilgrims. You can get to the Assumption Monastery by public transport (tram route No. 1), and then you will have a walk for about 15 minutes.
