St. Stephen's Gate
Eastern entrance to Old City, Jerusalem, Israel
Description:
The Gate of St. Stephen in Jerusalem has names: Lions, Sheep, Gate of Jehoshaphat or the Blessed Virgin and others.
They are named in memory of the Christian martyr Stephen (noted in the New Testament), who 2,000 years ago carried out the instruction of the Good News over Jerusalem.
For this he was killed and only in the XVI century on this territory erected the Gate of St. Stephen as a memory of the tragedy.
The gate was built by the Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Magnificent, so this quarter is called the Muslim.
You can get to the gate by public transport to Old Jerusalem.
