Tycho House Museum
9 Rav Cook Street, Jerusalem, Israel
About the company:
Tycho House is a popular art museum dedicated to the work of the spouses Anna and Albert Tycho. The House Museum is located in the north of Jerusalem.
Tycho House was formerly known as Rashida Castle. This building was built by Rashid Nashashibi in 1864, but at the beginning of the twentieth century the house was bought by the married couple Tycho, and the castle changed its name to the modern one - Tycho House. The Tychos were prominent members of the Jewish intelligentsia, and the Jerusalem intellectual elite – artists, politicians, philosophers, and writers – often gathered in their home. This place became legendary during the lives of the couple, and after their death, a museum was organized in the house.
Today, Tycho House is a small art gallery, where the atmosphere of the early twentieth century is carefully recreated. The exhibition presents numerous paintings by Anna Tycho, who liked to paint the cityscapes of Jerusalem and paint portraits of various famous personalities. The collection also features her husband’s work, mostly handmade menorahs. In addition, the House of Tycho collected many documents about the life and work of famous spouses.
Tycho House is a modest but very pleasant landmark of Jerusalem. Every year, this museum attracts thousands of fans of the Tycho couple, as well as ordinary tourists interested in painting.
