Nazareth: There is no prophet in his country
Description:
The biblical city of Nazareth, where the most pure virgin Mary receives the good news from the archangel Gabriel about the birth of the Son of God: “Behold, you will conceive in the womb, and you will give birth to a son, and you will call his name Jesus” Luke 1:31. Our path lies first and foremost in the Temple of the Annunciation, which was built on the site of the cave of the Annunciation. The modern temple was erected on the site of the Byzantine in 1969 by the Vatican, under the leadership of the Pope, according to the project of the famous architect Giovanni Muzio. In the huge courtyard of the temple you will walk through the covered gallery, which presents numerous mosaic images of the Virgin, donated by different countries, and brought here from all over the world.
Then we will continue our journey through the narrow streets of the historic part of the city. In the city there is a synagogue, in which, according to church tradition, the Savior himself preached. Today, the Catholic Synagogue Church stands in its place.
On one of the streets we will be able to look into the ancient underground grottoes, which preserved traces of the presence of the first Christians in the city, since at that time Christians were persecuted by the Romans.
On a tour of Nazareth, we will approach the spring of Mary and visit the Greek Orthodox Church, consecrated in honor of the Archangel Gabriel. In the church you can collect holy water directly from the spring of Mary, on which it is built. This church is central to the large Christian community of Nazareth.
