Safed, Tiberias and the Graves of the Righteous
Description:
In Jewish tradition, the ancient cities of Safed and Tiberias represent two of the four elements. Safed is the element of Air, and Tiberias is the element of Water. Both cities are permeated with the history of Judaism. Safed is the birthplace of Kabbalah, Tiberias is an ancient center of Jewish thinkers and teachers of law. Visiting the ancient synagogues of Safed and the graves of the righteous is one of the most powerful spiritual experiences.
Many Jewish teachers and righteous people were buried in the vicinity of these cities, and over time, a tradition was formed to come to these places and pray.
Among the righteous were very God-fearing rabbis who, according to legend, were bequeathed to pray at their graves in order to turn to the Almighty with a special request, and the soul of the righteous will support the prayer. At the grave of Rabbi Yehuda Bar Eli, they pray for prosperity, at Amuk – the grave of Rabbi Jonathan Ben Uziel – they ask for personal happiness, for finding the betrothed, for children. The tour program also includes a visit to the grave of the great Rambam (Maimonides) and the grave of Rabbi Meir the Wonderworker - they come here with all the important problems.
Different people pray at the graves - religious and secular Jews, Christians and Muslims come. Glory about these places of prayer spread throughout the world, and every year more and more people come to the graves of the righteous in Safed and Tiberias.
