Latrun Monastery

on highway No. 1 (Tel Aviv – Jerusalem) at the Latrun interchange turn to the southeast

Description:

Latrun Monastery is one of many active places in Israel, connected not only with the history of the country, but also with its religious fullness.

For tourists, it is certainly an interesting and attractive object, where they can see how and in what conditions monks live, get acquainted with local beauty and buy very original souvenirs.

The history of this place is not known for certain, that is, there are two versions of the appearance of the first building in Latrun, according to one of them, the ancient knights built their own house here, making it a real fortress to protect the order, according to the second - robbers lived here who decided to equip their lives.

However, whatever the beginning, later these lands were empty for a long time, only in the nineteenth century monks came here, who built a small monastery, which, however, also did not survive the First World War.

The new history of the monastery begins in 1919, when the monastery began to be built at a rapid pace, and this time it has retained its almost pristine appearance to the present day. The monastery is located on the way from Tel Aviv to Ben Gurion Airport near the highway, so it is easiest to get to it by taxi.
