Bialik House Museum
About the company:
Chaim Nachman Bialik House Museum is located in the building where the classic of Jewish literature spent the last 9 years of his life.
Bialik is incredibly popular in Israel - in almost every city there is a street named in his honor, a banknote and a postage stamp with his image are issued. But the main role in popularizing the poet’s heritage is played by his memorial house-museum in Tel Aviv.
Bialik moved to this house in 1924, but often left it for public needs. However, when he was at home, the doors of his last resting place were almost closed – hundreds of people wanted to see a man who had done so much for national literature and language.
The house-museum contains a collection of works by Jewish artists Reuven Rubin, Pinchas Litvinovsky, Chaim Lifshitz and others. In the poet’s office there is a portrait of Leo Tolstoy by Leonid Pasternak, whom Bialik respected, valued, and with whom he was friends in Odessa. Near the office there is an extensive library of the poet.
The museum presents a video-art composition by Michal Rovner, dedicated to Bialik’s participation in the expedition of the Jewish Historical Society following the Chisinau pogrom and how this tragedy reflected in the poet’s work. The basis of Rovner’s work was one of the six notebooks that Bialik kept at that time.
The house-museum is surrounded by a beautiful garden and is located on a street named after Bialik during the poet’s lifetime.
On Tuesdays there are excursions in Russian. Excursions begin at 18.00, duration - 1.5-2 hours.
