New Year

Description:

New Year
Modern Cameroon has little interest in Western culture and Western values, preferring national culture and traditions. Therefore, Cameroonians celebrate the New Year according to their traditions.

The most important African custom on this day is that adults give a coin to each child who congratulates them. It is believed that if the coin is not given, the evil spirits will be very unhappy. Therefore, children in Cameroon feel rich on the New Year, and many adults because of this tradition try not to leave the house on this day.

Traditionally, on the night of December 31 to January 1, the President addresses the citizens of Cameroon with a New Year’s speech and congratulations.
