The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Description:

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The name of the holiday - the Assumption - comes from the word "to sleep" and indicates that the Virgin Mary remained after her apparent bodily death.

This day is the remembrance of the death of the Mother of God and her bodily ascension to heaven. According to legend, after the death of Our Lady, the apostles buried Her body in the cave of Gethsemane. However, on the third day, wishing to console the late Apostle Thomas, the disciples of Christ opened the tomb of the Most Holy Virgin - and saw only burial veils in it. So they believed that the Mother of God was raised and ascended to heaven.

The bodily taking of the Virgin into heaven, as well as her freedom from original sin, is a dogma of the Catholic faith. Catholics believe that having bodily left the earth, the Virgin did not cease to intercede before the Son for peace, and perceive the feast of the Assumption as evidence of this.
