Grandparents Day in Canada

Description:

Happy day to grandparents and grandchildren!
In Canada, as in America, the Sunday of September following Labor Day pays homage to the older generation: Grandperents Day is celebrated, which literally means “Grandparents Day”.

The holiday was invented by housewife Marian McQuaid from West Virginia (USA) in 1970, and at first it took root only in this state. But eight years later, an initiative group of American citizens led by Mrs. McQuaid achieved its goal - Grandperents Day became a national celebration.

Usually on this day, families try to pay maximum attention to the elderly, everyone comes together to play old-fashioned board games, flip through yellowed photo albums, listen to stories about the affairs of bygone days.

On this day, small and adult grandchildren congratulate their grandparents on their holiday, give them flowers and gifts and definitely come to visit. Grandmothers are happy to welcome their grandchildren and usually treat them to sweet pies. Grandparents on this day also tend to pamper their grandchildren in some special way, spend the day with them, attract them to participate in a family picnic, pass on their skills in preparing a barbecue.

A picnic dedicated to the family barbecue on the occasion of Grandparents Day is a traditional event organized by Canadians in the yard of their own home in all weather. If the weather on this holiday weekend in September is particularly good, people take every opportunity to go somewhere. Someone goes for a day at a distance within 1-2-3 hours of driving (and since the roads in Canada are good, you can go far during this time) to return home in the evening, and someone loads a tent and sleeping bags into the car, stores food and drives for several days, if time off or vacation at work allows.

They travel in whole clans, taking not only all the closest family members (parents and 2-3-4 children, including babies of several months, or even weeks, of age), but also grandmothers-grandparents, aunt uncles, friends, one or two favorite dogs, a bunch of bicycles, a boat or a boat on a trailer or on the roof.

In Canada, there is simply a huge number of campgrounds, where you can stay with a tent or with a whole house on wheels (motorhome or trailer), which has a shower, and a TV with a satellite antenna, and a kitchen, and many other very, not very necessary things in the journey. On the sites with “servicing” you can connect to water, sewerage and electricity and feel “at home”, giving the older generation the opportunity to enjoy not only fresh air and beautiful nature, but also all the usual and age-appropriate comfort conditions.
