Gift day

Description:

Boxing Day
The day after Christmas is the feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, better known in Canada as Boxing Day. The term may have originated from a long church tradition of opening gift boxes and cash boxes for the poor who gathered at the entrance.

These days, it's more about gifts (usually in specially packed boxes) given to each other in families at Christmas. Many families prepare special gift boxes for those who provide services during the year.

Gift Day – the second day of Christmas – is a non-working day under Canada’s Labor Code.
