Civil Holiday in Canada
Description:
The idea that residents of Canada need a long weekend in the middle of summer, arose a long time ago: in the documents of the municipality of Toronto from 1869 there is a record of the need for another summer holiday - "day of recreation". And in 1871, the English House of Commons established for the entire British Empire a day off in early August, called "bank holiday." British banker, politician, biologist and archaeologist Sir John Lubbock said he recommended that the Toronto municipality "consider the additional August holiday in Canada prudent and satisfactory."
Perhaps, after the authoritative statement of John Lubbock, the municipality of Toronto and approved in 1875 the first Monday of August as a Civil Day Holiday.
This day is now reserved for provincial and city holidays in Canada. Its names vary from province to province, however, the fact is that all of Canada does not work on this day. And, no matter how this holiday is called in various provinces and cities, Canadians always spend it with benefit: relax, travel, have fun at festivals.
And since this holiday, like most holidays in Canada, is celebrated on Mondays, it is time to offer Canadians a saying: Tuesday is a hard day!
